Tanzanian musician Harmonize’s recent Instagram post sparked controversy after he suggested God could be a woman. This idea, while a personal reflection according to Harmonize, clashed with the dominant religious views in Tanzania.
Tanzania has a large Christian and Muslim population, and both faiths traditionally portray God as a masculine figure. Religious leaders condemned Harmonize’s analogy, viewing it as disrespectful to their established beliefs. This isn’t the first time Harmonize has courted religious controversy. In May 2023, he faced criticism for attending church with his girlfriend, despite being Muslim himself.
